The year was 1993 and in the latest Wizard Magazine issue #24, the big plug was Batman and Spawn teaming up, Azrael as the new Batman, DC Universe’s Bloodlines Earthplague crossover, an interview with Jim Shooter and his new comic book company Defiant, Peter David on departing “X-Factor” and working on DC Comics’ “Aquaman”, Malibu’s Ultraverse, Mike Grell’s “Shaman Tears” and of course, the magazine’s growing comic guide.

It’s an interesting issue no doubt.

1993, you have to give Wizard credit for really boosting the popularity of Valiant Comics by putting them in the top spots and really making people want to get their hands on an issue, which made things even more difficult as most comics who ordered in advance, hardly got in issues of Valiant, until more and more people began requesting it at comic book shops.

And of course, Wizard continued to do the same with Image, as “Spawn” and “Youngblood” were heavily covered.

That summer, the rage was Azrael and the lead up to the “Breaking of the Bat” issue and literally making Bane one of the most feared villains in Batman-related comics.

And of course, “The Amazing Spider-Man” issue #300 was red hot!

That was 1993!  An interesting comic book year.
