Back in 1994, “The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix” featured then husband and wife traveling to the future to see their son but also taking part in the defeat of Apocalypse.

Two years later, “Askani’Son” is a storyline that goes into what happened in the future after Cyclops and Phoenix disappeared to go back to their own timeline.

We find out the world is no safer now because a new group arose “for the best interest of the people” and they became known as Canannites and act as the official guardians of the populace, promoting peace, harmony and profit.

And when Nathan Dayspring and his friend get into some trouble trying to stand up to the current regime, unfortunately Nathan is messed up due to the virus.

Meanwhile, Stryfe can not stand that people follow the Canaanites and believes he should be the true successor to Apocalypse.  Meanwhile, a hunter known as Umbridge is given a task, to incarcerate, incinerate and obliterate and that includes killing Nathan Dayspring.

As for Stryfe, is he trying to resurrect Apocalypse?

The comic featured a wraparound thicker cover and the comic was  a good start and establishing Nathan (Cable) and Stryfe and how they are so different from each other but how life at home went to crap, even after the defeat of Apocalypse.

Overall, “Askani’Son” was an OK issue.  It more or less tries to establish the setting of how things never got better after the defeat of Apocalypse.  Man has since become corrupted with greed and it’s one of the things the new Cananites are perpetuating, even though they do it, thinking that Professor X is their god.
