Patsy and Hedy get a taste of Hollywood drama in their first major career gig.  How will things go in their first few days in Hollywood?  Overall, a delightful and solid issue of “Patsy & Hedy”!

TITLE:  Patsy & Hedy Career Girls issue #105

YEAR: April 1966

COMPANY: Marvel Comics

EDITED by Stan Lee

WRITTEN by Roy Thomas

ART: Stan Girardi

INKING: Al Hartley

For Patsy & Hedy, they became career girls with issue #96 and as the past issues focused on their frienemy relationship (despite all the bad things Hedy does to Patsy, she still hangs out with her.  What’s up with that?), with issue #105, they have their first major assignment as journalists and that is to go to Hollywood and interview celebrities.

As Buzz is fighting in Vietnam, Patsy still wonders how her boyfriend is doing.  While her career keeps her busy, the first popular person she and Hedy will meetup with is the most popular DJ in Hollywood, Al Tindall (who she met back in “Patsy Walker” issue #124).

While Patsy and Hedy await their meeting with Al, eavesdropping is Rick Strong, a singer trying to make it big in Hollywood and immediately, Hedy takes a liking to him.

He invites them to watch his live performance and Al tells Patsy that Rick is a guy who has been trying to get his music played over the air.

As they watch Rick Strong perform, they know he definitely has a voice.  But Patsy knows Rick is too smooth, too polite as if he’s practiced his lines on what to say to Hedy.

As Patsy wants to tell Hedy to be careful, that maybe he is using her to get feature in “The Star”.  But she sees Hedy sleeping with a smile on her face.

As  Hedy and Rick go out on a date, Rick acts if he knows every major celebrity in the city.

While Patsy and Al try to warn Hedy, Hedy won’t listen and is angered that both are trying to prevent her from seeing Rick.  When he tells her what Patsy and Al were talking about him, and this angers Rick to the point that he causes a scene at the club and punches Al in the face.

This is enough for Hedy to see the real side of Steve.

Overall, this was a pretty good issue.  A slice of Hollywood drama and Patsy and Hedy get a taste of it for the first time in their first few days in Tinseltown.

But it’s interesting to see Hedy fall so hard for a guy and Patsy so concerned for Hedy’s well-being.  Considering how much Hedy has treated Patsy wrong, it goes to show how sweet and cool Patsy Walker truly is.
