In issue #58, Dr. Doom has stolen the Silver Surfer’s cosmic powers and now has control of the Silver Surfer’s surfboard.

As Reed and Sue are planning a weekend getaway at the Southampton cottage they rented, as The Thing sits around, he feel anxious and nervous about something.  That something is not right.

Sure enough, he is thrown around by Dr. Doom using Silver Surfer’s cosmic powers.

The Thing does all he can to fight Dr. Doom but Dr. Doom manages to turn the Thing to a statue.  Meanwhile, Lockjaw teleports Johnny and Wyatt to the Baxter building where they find it destroyed.

Meanwhile, at the cottage where Reed and Sue are staying, of course, Reed Richards is working on another invention which is soon destroyed by Dr. Doom, who starts attacking Reed Richards.

Worried about Reed and Sue, Johnny transforms into the Human Torch and races to rescue them, while he has Wyatt use one of Reed’s inventions to bring The Thing back to life.

As Human Torch takes on Dr. Doom, the three members of the Fantastic Four are later joined by Wyatt and The Thing and knowing that they are unable to beat Dr. Doom, Reed orders the group to stand back, knowing they can’t beat Dr. Doom in his current, powerful state.

And because he finally sees the Fantastic Four giving up, Dr. Doom decides to spare their lives because they are powerless and they no longer matter.

If anything, a wonderful battle between the Fantastic Four vs. Dr. Doom, one of many more battles to come.

But I’m surprised that Wyatt Wingfoot has stayed in the comic book for so long.  And I realized, this is probably one of the few times in a comic book where you saw a Native American featured as a hero, while not as a member of the Fantastic Four but he’s been right there in the thick of battle with them despite not having any superhuman ability.

To bad he has not received much attention in today’s comic books as he was featured back in the mid-60s. If he was given powers, he would have made an awesome team member of the Fantastic Four as a support character or a member of the Avengers or Defenders.
