YEAR: August 1993

The early ’90s and many anime magazines in English have ended, while only were left…Viz Media’s Animerica, Canada’s Protoculture Addicts, Anime UK and Antarctic Press’ Mangazine.
And each of these publications offered something different and because anime was slowly starting to get recognition, chances of a comic books shop getting these magazines were slim and if they did, they would only get one or two issues at the most.
Antarctic Press’ “Mangazine Anime and Comics” was a black and white publication that featured news, interviews and a spotlight on a certain title.
And then the second half of the book would feature various manga titles.
For me, I often used this magazine to promote the anime BBS I ran back in the day and it was a way for those to meet fellow anime fans around the world.
Bare in mind, this was before the Internet was popular and Internet BBS using slow modems were part of technology at the time.
With issue #25, the main focus was on a popular 1986 anime OVA known as “Project A-Ko”. Surprisingly, nothing much has materialized in terms of new material considering the series’ popularity in America since the ’90s (which 3 OVA’s and a spin-off was produced).
But overall, “Mangazine Anime and comics” was a good resource for anime fans for its time.
