Spawn created by Todd McFarlane

Back in 1995, the alternate storyline “The Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe” was no doubt a big hit!

And since then, there have been numerous stories featuring Deadpool killing the Marvel Universe and sure enough, Todd McFarlane has created his own titled “Spawn Kills Everyone!” which he wrote and features artwork by JJ Kirby.

The story features a mini-Spawn who decides to go to San Diego Comic Con and wanders into the cosplay contest line and encountering people dressed like their favorite superheroes and some acting the part.

Of course, mini-Spawn believes these are the true heroes and ends up killing them.  And sure enough, what happens when mini-Spawn comes into contact with Spawn creator Todd McFarlane?

Needless to say, the majority of the people that mini-Spawn ends up killing are cosplayers dressed as Marvel superheroes.

The comic also features sketches by Todd McFarlane and JJ Kirby.

May it be in jest or Todd still has no love for Marvel Comics, while this issue has received a third printing, I was hoping for a better storyline.  If anything, I think those who may find this actually issue fascinating are those who go to conventions and can’t stand the attention cosplayers are receiving or dislike cosplayers in general.  Sure, it’s also a self-deprecating issue as Todd writes about Spawn killing him, but in some ways, it does remind me of old school ’80s Assistant Editor takes over Marvel Comics for a month and the editors would feature themselves in a comic book.

But in actuality, this issue was OK.  Nothing more, nothing less.
