I last wrote about the beginning of “Weapon of Mutant Destruction” in my blog post for “Weapons of Mutant Destruction: Alpha Issue #1”.
About how the Weapon X program, which has long been decommissioned would be back and now this time they are creating a perfect soldier.
In the pages of “Weapon X” and “Totally Awesome Hulk”, undetectable adamantium cyborgs with mutant powers have targeted Logan, Sabretooth, Domino, Warpath, Lady Deathstrike and Amadeus Cho (Totally Awesome Hulk) leading them to band together. What they found is a secret laboratory conducting horrific genetic experiments with one goal in mind, eradicating all mutantkind. The arc kicked off in “Weapons of Mutant Distruction: Alpha” Issue #1 and the cover alone shows how frightening this possible new creation may be…a Hulk and Wolverine hybrid?
And once again, we get a cover showcasing the skeleton of this huge behemoth with claws and a skeleton possibly with adamantium-laced bones.
I posted about how a young man named Bobby being dropped off to the top secret area and being taken to Black Level, Batch H.
And not long after he gets there, the brain conditioning begins with Bobby being taught that the mutants are evil, how his brother was savagely killed by the Hulk and with the appearance of Reverend William Stryker, asking Bobby to join and serve the cause.
Meanwhile, the brilliant Amadeus Cho learns that Weapon H has been shipped a lot of materials to create an army.
But now a rescue attempt is underway as the Hulk, Old Man Logan, Domino, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike and Warpath are about to infiltrate the Weapon H program in “Weapon X” Issue #6, which is Weapons of Mass Destruction: Part Five.
This latest issue is more like a popcorn action film. Plenty of action, while the storyline…it’s more or less a rescue attempt but what we are reading is more of the action sequence as the group take on cyborgs. To their surprise, they encounter Cyborgs that have been upgraded with Domino’s DNA, so her luck factor is giving certain cyborg’s an advantage of evading…except against Domino.
Because of the infiltration, Stryker gives Doctor Alba the go ahead to release H-Beta and H-Alpha. H-Beta to be the first to be released.
Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned and I’ll leave it at that.
If anything, I think that the final story of “Totally Awesome Hulk” issue #22, part 6 of the “Weapons of Mutant Destruction” will be interesting as we will get to see both H-Beta and H-Alpha possibly in action. While I won’t get into specifics, it will be interesting to see if the group can work together after what happened in this issue.
So far, the “Weapons of Mutant Destruction” has been an average series bolstered by the appearance of a Hulk/Wolverine hybrid that no doubt got people interested. But it took a while just to get to this point and I hope by part 6, it will be all worth it.
